Filipino English Teachers in Japan - Global

On December 10, 2023, the FETJ-global celebrated its annual expo in the vibrant city of Saitama. Organized through the collaborative efforts of 5 chapters (Saitama, Chiba 1, Chiba 2, Central Tokyo and Kanagawa), the FETJ-Global Masquerade Expo 2023 brought together about 100 educators and enthusiasts from across Japan for a day of enchantment, enlightenment, and entertainment.

A pivotal moment during the expo is the induction of the new executive committee officers. Marife Carpio, having served two consecutive terms as president, passed the baton of leadership with a symbolic key of responsibility to Ellie Fujimoto.

Participants from various chapters came in their masquerade attires and showcased their talents through a medley of presentations and performances - from songs to dances and speech choirs, proving once again that FETJ-Global has a tremendous pool of talents and skills.

The expo also served as a platform for professional development. There were poster presentations, each offering valuable insights and innovative teaching techniques tailored for English teachers and learners in Japan. These were inspired by the theme of masquerade and masks, containing lesson plans and teaching materials designed to enrich classroom experiences and engage students on a deeper level.

Awards were given to the most captivating expo outfit, to the most enthralling performance, and the most informative poster presentation. Additionally, Founder's Pride awardees were celebrated for having successfully landed a teaching post after attending the organization’s seminars/trainings. lauded for their unwavering dedication and pioneering spirit, embodying the core values of the FETJ community.

The festivities extended beyond the stage and presentations, with raffle draws and games adding an extra layer of excitement and camaraderie to the event. Characteristic of expos in the past, the event aimed to serve as a beacon of inspiration, igniting a passion for learning and collaboration, embodying the core values of the FETJG community.

The summer months of July and August have been abuzz with activity for the Filipino English Teachers in Japan - Global. With a flurry of events spanning across different chapters, the organization has been making a significant impact in the field of language education and cultural exchange. Let's take a closer look at the remarkable events that have unfolded.

The 2022 FETJ-Global Annual Expo was held on December 10 in Kyoto, the country's cultural capital and a major tourist destination. The overarching idea of this year’s Expo is TV game shows. Participating chapters brought to the event hall the fun, wit, and competitiveness we usually witness in TV game shows such as Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, Game ka na ba?, Jeopardy, etc. Chapters were encouraged to design a game (original or based on a TV game show) with educational value. Members could find inspiration in these games to make their lessons more fun and interactive.

The tagline for the event was “We are all in it to win it!” “It” refers to our chosen field/profession. We are all aware of the many challenges Filipino English teachers in Japan face. Each of us has been faced with some sort of struggle at some point. Perhaps, even at present, many of us are still making sense of this path that we chose. But no matter what they are, FETJ-Global will do its utmost best to provide support not only in terms of professional development but also in achieving a good work-life balance and empowering everyone to meet the challenges head on. “We’re all in it to win it!” reinforces our desire to move mountains in achieving our goals.

During the event, awards were given to those who have successfully started their teaching career after attending FETJG seminars/workshops (Founder’s Pride Award), to outstanding members, to outstanding chapter presidents, and to outstanding chapters.
